Jazztronica - Live At Pi-rem. CD Release Party. Fri. Dec.14

Jazztronica - Live At Pi-rem. CD Release Party. Fri. Dec.14
Body: Pi-rem is thrilled to announce that we will be celebrating the release of the album: Jazztronica - Live at Pi-rem on Friday December 14th. This night shall feature live performances by the Jazztronica musicians and dance performances by Gypsy Caravan Dance Company. Accompanying the performers - DJ SomRas.

The doors shall open at 9pm. The tickets are $8 and shall be available at the door.

The album features a number of exciting musicians: Derek Sims, Keith Schriener (Auditory Sculpture), Clay Giberson, Luis Tetaje (Acroyear) and Skip vonKuske (Cellotronik). Jazztronica has been a series designed to create a musical community between electronic musicians and jazz musicians interested in expanding their creative palettes. The album itself is a product of synthesizing improvised jazz with live electronic music that was recorded live during the Jazztronica sessions at Pi-rem.

Derek Sims is an in-demand trumpeter in the local jazz and classical music scene, as well as a coveted player with more experimental projects (Dahlia, Auditory Sculpture). Sims has traveled the world and played in over 40 countries with numerous projects. He still finds the time to teach privately and directs the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Jazz and Combo Programs, as well as sitting in as a clinician and faculty member of the Mel Brown Summer Jazz Camps.

For eight years, Keith Schreiners electronic music and experimental auditory sculptures have been the backbone of Portlands ever-burgeoning electronic/dj scene. His wildly successful days in Dahlia (five years of packed Tuesday nights at the Ohm) were only the starting point into a career that has included numerous production, albums, and collaboration opportunities.

Well traveled geographically and musically, keyboardist/composer Clay Giberson's artistic talent and musicianship are coming to the forefront, A Southwest Washington native, he studied in Coral Gables, Florida, University of Miami ( B.M. Cum Laude, Studio Music and Jazz) and New York City, New York University (M.M. Magna Cum Laude, Music Technology) where he studied with Jim McNeely, Fred Hersch and Vince Maggio. Having been influenced by all types of music, Clay draws from these idioms in his own compositions and in the interpretation of others. Currently he is a member of the bands "Upper Left Trio" and "Go By Train" based out of Portland, Oregon. He is on the faculty at Clackamas Community College where he teaches electronic music and jazz piano.

Acroyear is Luis Tataje. Local foreign nationalist creating sonic landscapes in PDX and SFO since 1998. Dark, visceral , sometimes a-rhythmic but always thought - provoking. Creating dubplates for the former Portland based dub label BSI Records(Systemwide/Muslimgauze/BeWa/Twilight Dub Circus) to doing various remixing projects local and abroad. Blurbs : "BLUDGEONING BASS AND BREAKS" - PORTLAND MERCURY "RIB-CRACKIN' BASS AND LUSH ATMOSPHERICS TO BE HAD" - BSI RECORDS "LESS BEAT DRIVEN BUT FORMING BIGGER SOUND WAVES ACROYEAR'S CREATIONS SWIRLED OVER THE OFTEN CLOSED-EYED, HEAD - NODDING AUDIENCE" - THE OREGONIAN.

Skip vonKuske has been in Portland since 1994. In that time he's worked as a cellist with many many artists and fears leaving their names off a list, but here are some highlights. The Portland Cello Project, Vagabond Opera, The Oregon Symphony, Pink Martini, Smoky Robinson Jennifer Batten ( Jeff Beck, Michael Jackson ),Trans Siberian Orchestra, Nu Shooz Orchestra, Randy Cannon, The Stolen Sweets, Michael Allen Harrison, Stephanie Schneiderman, Carmina Pirana/Luna, Ashleigh Flynn, Susie Blue, Myshkin's Ruby Warblers. Skip vonKuske brings a perspective to recording and live performance based on his experiences as a songwriter/guitarist as well as 31 years of cello study. He's been improvising ..o ,guitar, and bass for over 20 years. Cellotronik was born 2 years ago when he began working with Reason, but gestated for the previous 3 years when the RC20 Loop Station entered his rack of tricks.

A mass of swaying hips, undulating bellies, hands upon hands upon hands with arms moving snake-like, strangely synchronous; watch closely as these powerfully sensuous women wrap you in their web of enchanting improvisation. Haunting horns calling you from the desert, earthly drums bring you back to the beginning of time; forlorn melodies sung from the deepest of souls, Gypsy Caravan invites you to join them on a journey back to the cradle of civilization. Woolen yarns, billowing silk, and jangling metal add texture to delight the senses, reminding you of the millions of women who came before us. A tribute to the past, created in the present, borrowing from many cultures and full of today's urban spirit, feel your tribal soul coming to life, echoing our cries for life and freedom.

We hope you are as excited as we are about this upcoming party & album. Do join us in celebrating this special event.
Pan-Zen Konspiracy Nettwyrk has ridden the outer edge of the electronic music wave from the early adolescence of intelligent techno. Their methods are multivaried and exotic - an array of KAOS pads, circuit bent electronics, live instruments, endless arrays of keyboard synth, laptop software, turntables, and samplers beyond reckoning. With a depth of collaboration born from hours of uninterrupted improvs in darkened basements and vast outdoor festivals, Pan-Zen has from time to time manifested the Konspiracy series as a means of focusing their energies and reaching out to kindred spirits in their home base - Portland Oregon.

Konspiracy returns for the fourth of its numberless lives, choosing for its latest stage the hidden freak labs at Rotture (no stranger itself to ressurection).

See what's happening in the future, every Monday night.

TONIGHT - SPAZ, NEQUAQUAM VACUUM, and more at Nightmare Collective benefit

TONIGHT, FRIDAY 7/21
Oakland's SPAZ COLLECTIVE, Portland's NEQUAQUAM VACUUM, and just tons of other bands
at OWL PARLIAMENT
305 SE 3RD, next to Loveland, in the City Signs Building
Doors at 8, show starts at 9, absolutely no idea when we're going on but hopefully at least a little bit later than that

$5-10 sliding scale
A Benefit for The Nightmare Collective

Indeed folks.

I'm performing tonight at a benefit for The Nightmare Collective. This is going to be a gigantic blow-out show, built around a touring group of electronic musicians and disaster relief workers known as SPAZ (Semi-Permanent Autonomous Zone). These are the expatriate Lords of the Oakland warehouse scene, the collective that birthed Nightmare Collective itself, as well as The SPAZ-Port, The Mutant Festival, Circo Mutante, and an absolute shit-ton of incredible music over the past decade. I don't know exactly what they've got in store for us, but past experience would indicate some combination of banging dance-floor experimental Live PA shit, some circus, and a light dose of more ethereal electro-acoustic material. Principally, what they have to offer is a party, but a party put on by hardline wandering art freaks. Also, they wander the Earth helping out at disaster sites such as New Orleans and Bali. Some of the greatest people alive.
http://www.spaz.org

Local acts will again include my own band, Nequaquam Vacuum, playing on the roof -- a post-asiatic free improvising ensemble combining my own scrap metal percussion and glossolalia vocals with the multi-instrumental meditations of Travis McAlister, psychedelic Indian classical noise from Brian Crowl on the sitar and jumbusch, the extended flute, recorder, and violin technique of self-taught maestro Dr. Yes, and some combination of our other revolving collaborators (maybe get James Davis out there, or Rale Sidebottom, you know, Nolon Ashley or something)

AND

here comes a big black cloud (astonishing trash rock with a theremin)
silver creme (colloidal or perhaps the variety of stage make-up)
the swimmers (screwy art-punk duo)

And Again,
the spaz mutate or die tour lineup

Featuring:

spukkin faceship - http://www.myspace.com/60695115
the 486-kid - http://www.myspace.com/the486kid
IKAFEET
megabitch
jonah the mole
mc sub-0 permafrost
mc shellshock (of New Orleans)

Friday, July 14th - "Motions Through Ambience" @ The Know

Good Evening,

I would like to invite you to The Know this Friday, July 14th for a sonic journey through the senses and the mind. Envelope yourselves in the essence of the seasons as your eye seeks out frequencies correlated to spring's effervescence. That aether now mutated onward and outward by the sun, a fiery beacon in the black. We set forward, prostrated to burn as the sun makes it's way across our brow. The auditory exchange is the vessel to re-connect as time shifts the relationships between the stars.

Come fill your ears with waves of sonic pyre. Soon enough they will be of liquid, filling our lungs into sleep and slumber.

"Motions Through Ambience", performed by Synchronicity Frequency
Friday, July 14th 2006
The Know - 20th and Alberta NE
9:30 - Free!

CD's of "Motions Through Ambience, V1.0" available at the show!
www.morphedproductions.com

This sound series, derived by the sensations of spring, will continue an ongoing process, a transformation of its form and style throughout the seasons. As one can imagine, the crispness of the spring air has influenced a bright and mesmerizing atmosphere, hungry for growth and stimulation. Performance will offer the ideal space for both performer and observer to indulge in the metamorphosis as a freely evolving experience, enabling the listener to take part in what has been a natural process for Synchronicity Frequency's music.

"I often find the compositions I write resistant to stagnation, by my own dissatisfaction with redundancy I often 'sabotage' my recordings by manipulating and transforming their character and texture the more I play and perform them." -RO

Rather than keeping this process a matter of private studio session or undocumented live material, SF will release a newly transformed version of the original 'Motions Through Ambience' to be able to be experienced as an entire work dusted by the essence of the seasons. The first version of release V1.0 was released at the end of spring. Throughout summer, witness "Motions Through Ambience" live at various locations. There you will experience the current affects of the season on the set and observe the new form it will be taking. At the end of summer, acquire the latest recording and transformation, V1.1. Fall and winter will work in the same fashion until the full cycle has met its node.

Scouting for AMF

An update and a call related to our efforts to help locate a site for AMF...

Most recently we have been exploring lower Gifford-Pinchot... So far it looks like north ov Carson is too populated (lots of camp sites, hiking, etc)... That puts us over to Cougar as our point of last chance for fuel & water...

Hence I am putting out a call to the krewe, and others, interested in exploring that area, and can either provide a vehicle &/or duckets for gas.

Post other ideas.... and you can shoot me a message for details.

Two Gigs For Pan-Zen

Hey gang.

As you hopefully all know, I've taken over this new performance space and nightclub, the opening date for which is September 1st.

Needless to say, I intend to have all 2Gyrlz and Pan-Zen affiliates in the space at some time or another.

But there are two dates in particular that I'd like to offer to Pan-Zen as a whole, to more or less schedule however you like.

The first of these is Friday September 1st - anybody who isn't going to Burning Man, we should posse up and work out the first night of my not-going-to-Burning-Man event, aka Crack Rock City. I want it to be a big freakjob dance party in there, and something of a parody of the big BM. It's also the absolute first event scheduled at Someday, a preview weekend that happens before the official Grand Opening.

The second is a proposed send-off party for Llewyn and Lisa, which I've got tentatively scheduled for Thursday September 14. I would see this as basically a Konspiracy night, except of course that we've got one room instead of two.

If there's a way to contact Pan-Zen crew who aren't on this Tribe, I would very much appreciate any forwarding you might be able to do.

So I have dispelled the rumors of idaho being a location..

It has been determined that it is not close enough to the I-5 corridor, its not Cascadia, and its probably a little to freaky for mutants....

So, this leaves the scouting still open...
Is anybody up for a scouting trip?

I'm thinking something an hour or so away from PDX...
Thoughts on locations? Any volunteers wanna scout with me... (I ain't got no wheels!)

Okay, so I'm working on my big Curricuulum Vitae, right?

And there's this one show that I can't figure out.

It was for the ELF 2003 - The Language of Noise at Liminal Space.

Smegma played, and so did Yellow Swans (with guest Jim Altieri).

And I can see, in the photos on 2gyrlz.org, John Berendzen (of Liminal Group) and David Kendall (of Improvisatyrs, who are an LA band)

But the press and site materials all list "artists from Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, and Portland)"; and I can see at least two bands in the photos who are complete mysteries to me.

Anybody got a record of this? Who played The language of Noise 2003?

Carnival Seeking Sound Help for PhoenixFest

Hey gang. It's Noah.

As you may have heard, this travelling carnival sideshow of mine has recently parted ways with our bus driver and sound guy (they were something of a package deal I'm afraid).

So, we feel that we're well on the way toward solving the Bus Issue; but the SoundGuy Issue remains a giant gaping hole in our plans.

So of course, the first thing that Ryan and I thought of was to call on our allies in Pan-Zen/2Gyrlz to throw down some sound at PhoenixFest (and, for that matter, Mutant Fest and Burning Man).

This is when we realized that just about all of you were already working sound at these Festivals, for other people.

HOWEVER! If there does happen to be anyone in the PZ/2G realm who might be intrigued to help us with sound duties at Phoenix/Mutant/BurningMan; we can offer you free admission and hook-ups with food/water at all three. That's right - even that third one. On the DL, you understand, but this is a for real offer that I can explain to you in person.

Any takers? Call me at the phone of James Davis: 503-756-9382
